Please take a more active role in opposing SOPA and PIPA
January 12, 2012I encourage everyone to take a more active role in opposing the current legislature written in SOPA and PIPA bills. The current bills will do more harm than good.
With that being said, I would like to see Google take a more active role in their opposition of SOPA and PIPA.
Many people are calling for websites to participate in a blackout on January 18th. However, we all know it is not wise for Google do participate in such an act. Google will lose millions in ad revenue, their stock will go crashing down, they will face lawsuits, etc.
Here is my proposal of what actions Google can take for USA users...
1. Google is known for its simple homepage and therefore, I propose that Google turns the background color of their page black and prominently display a message encouraging visitors to call their Senator(s) to oppose SOPA/PIPA.
2. There is an image floating around online on what Google will look like if SOPA/PIPA were to pass. I propose Google implements something where it displays a "This result was filtered due to SOPA / PIPA. Click to remove this message" message instead of the result.

3. Google has their Google Voice product and I propose that Google implements a system where users can easily call their Senator(s) for free using Google Voice. Make this simple for the users by just having a "Call my Senator" button as Google most likely knows where you live.
4. Google has Gmail and they can display a simple message in Gmail such as "Click here to send an email to your Senator". In which Google will automatically send an email on your behalf.
Those are just four suggestions and I am sure there are more ways Google can be more active or help users be more active in opposing SOPA / PIPA.
So far I have written letters, made phone calls and sent emails to my Senators, as well as, other Congressmen and asking them to oppose SOPA and PIPA. Unfortunately, I have not received a response for my efforts.
